Mental Health Workshop for the Young Adult NAMI
Ms. Sharon M. Gartrell is a retired United States Army veteran with over 21 years of honorable service. A member of NAMI Memphis for nearly 20 years, she has filled numerous positions and accomplished multiple responsibilities, including serving on the Board of Directors. She has also been very involved in the Memphis Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program, which began in Memphis 30 years ago and is now a national model as well as international for law enforcement training in dealing with mental health crisis. 

Since Sharon’s retirement, she has performed volunteer positions such as:
  • Columnist
  • Creative writer
  • Amateur artist 
  • Lecturer
  • Published writer
  • Interviewee/panelist/mental health consumer 
She has also volunteered in other various non-profit organizations in the Mid-South and beyond.
